Welcome

Rochester Cathedral has been a place of learning for over 1400 years. We welcome family groups, school children and students of all ages, abilities, cultural and religious backgrounds to learn about this historic centre of Christian worship.

School visits

The Learning Department at Rochester Cathedral is responsible for arranging and supporting around 13,000 British and overseas student visits each year. A wide variety of curriculum areas across the key stages may be addressed during a visit to the cathedral. Many groups also arrange a visit to Rochester Castle, Guildhall Museum, Huguenot Museum, Eastgate House or other local places of worship (e.g. Chatham Memorial Synagogue) to further enhance the learning outcomes for their students. All learning programmes can be adapted to meet specific learning objectives and individual needs.

It is essential that all groups pre-book.

The worksheets and workshops offered by the Cathedral Learning Department are related to National Curriculum and the Locally Agreed R.E. Syllabi for surrounding areas. We have a wide programme which covers Art & Design, SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural), STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics), English and of course RE and History. We are happy to adapt or tailor- make workshops to match your specific learning requirements.

We constantly review and add to our list of workshops, periodically offering special one-off events. A copy of our current leaflet, background and travel information, and links to other useful websites can be found on the Teachers’ page.

The Cathedral Learning Department is occasionally available to visit you in school. We are happy to visit venues within a 30 mile radius of the cathedral. For details of our travelling workshops go to the Outreach page.

We are also happy to arrange visits for youth and uniformed groups at weekends or during the school holidays.
