Key Stage 4+ – Activities and Resources
All visits can be tailor-made to meet your requirements. For differentiation purposes it may be useful to look at the Key Stage 3 Activities and Resources page. Activities listed under other Key Stages can be adapted to meet the requirements of Key Stage 4 and beyond. Many schools plan cross-site visits combining a trip to the cathedral with a visit to the castle, Guildhall Museum, Eastgate House or the Huguenot Museum. Speak to our Learning Team about linked programmes.

All visits need to be pre-booked. Entry cannot be guaranteed without prior booking.
We have two lunchrooms with capacity for approx 30 students each. Lunchrooms need to be pre-booked and hire fees apply.
Please note that our lunchrooms are located up a steep flight of stairs. Alternative accommodation is occasionally available. Please phone to discuss details.
Talks and Workshops
Themed Tours A 45 minute guided look around the cathedral. A wide variety of themes on offer – tours can be tailor-made to match your requirement e.g. RE / History / Art & Design/ Charles Dickens & Rochester / Architecture etc
Curriculum links: various
The Reformation Trail A 45 minute guided tour looking at the impact of the Tudors on Rochester Cathedral. We find out about the dissolution of the monastery, the lime-washing of the medieval wall paintings and the creation of the Church of England.

Poor Man’s Bible A 45 minute guided exploration of some of the artwork in the cathedral. We decode the stories and messages in the stained glass windows, the green men, the fresco, the tiles and much more.

Travel & Tourism A 30 minute talk looking at the impact of tourism on the cathedral. We explore the place of the cathedral in the world of heritage visits and discuss two recent HLF funded projects aimed at improving interpretation within the cathedral. Following the talk, 30 minutes to independently explore the cathedral is given.
Exploring the Cathedral Collections Our newly refurbished library and exhibition space house a variety of books and objects from the Cathedral collection including Textus Roffensis – the only existing copy of the earliest English law codes. We can tailor-make visits to explore and find out more about primary sources in our collection.
