The Gundulf Society
The trustees of Rochester Cathedral Trust formed the Gundulf Society, as a small society for benefactors, a couple of years ago in recognition of their significant historic contributions to Rochester Cathedral. Bishop Gundulf presided over the building of the Norman Cathedral as the first bishop of Rochester after the Conquest in 1075.
From 2020-2023, we were honoured that Dame Joanna Lumley was our first president of the Gundulf Society. Other founding members include Jools Holland and Sir Michael Palin.
The Gundulf Society’s objective is to support the fabric and musical traditions of Rochester Cathedral by bringing together people who are well disposed to the Cathedral, and at the same time to provide a feeling of affinity between its members, in support of this wonderful cause. The Society aims to ensure that members are invited to a number of Cathedral events each year. In addition, an annual exclusive Gundulf Society event will be organised in London or Kent. From time to time Gundulf members may be invited to the excellent events and trips organised by the Friends of Rochester Cathedral.
The Society has an annual subscription of £500.
We were delighted that Gundulf Society member Sir Michael Palin, was able to record a short message.
