Challenge 5 – Make an Easter Garden

Rochester Cathedral has several windows telling different parts of the Easter Story. Some are in the Lady Chapel, but there are several more elsewhere in the building.

Making an Easter garden is a great way to explore and think about the Easter story. Your garden can be made of natural materials, or paper and card. You can make it as an indoor decoration or put it in a corner of your garden. It can be as big as a tabletop or as small as a shoebox. 

You may wish to read the Easter story in the Bible before you make your garden, or as you are making it.  The Easter story can be found in each of the four gospels: Matthew chapters 26-28; Mark chapters 14-16; Luke chapters 22-24; John chapters 17-20.

Things to include in your garden

  • Something to represent the hillside around Jerusalem

  •   Three empty crosses

  • Something to represent Jesus tomb

  • Something to represent the stone which covered the entrance to the tomb

  • Flowers to represent new life

You can add other things too if you wish. There is no one right way to make an Easter Garden, so go on, get creative and have some fun.
