Public art on display outside Rochester Cathedral
/Medway, Together Stronger by Mona Whitton, Matt Wass and Charlie Noel
Medway Council have commissioned five statues illustrating the important coronavirus (Covid-19) messages. Two of these statues are on display just outside the Cathedral by the War Memorial.
Medway, Together Stronger by Mona Whitton, Matt Wass and Charlie Noel illustrate the five coronavirus safety messages
wear a mask
pay with card, where possible
stay indoors if you have symptoms
wash your hands
keep your distance.
Each statue is made up of steel nuts and washers, welded together to form a 'cage' around a glass heart. Through the centre of each heart runs a 'heartbeat'. Whilst every heart and every statue are different, the heartbeat running through the middle is identical. This reflects the need for us to work together, with one heart, to keep ourselves and our community safe. Many people. One goal. Medway, together, stronger.
These pieces are a collaboration between three artists. The statues have been made by Matt Wass of Rustcycle Creations, the glass hearts by Charlie of Charlie Noel Glass and the artwork by Mona of Mona Whitton Art and Events.
