Project Funding update

Every 5 years the Cathedral has an in-depth inspection of repairs and conservation work. The last one was carried out in early 2018. Since that time the Rochester Cathedral Trust has raised over £800k and the Pinnacle project has been funded and is now complete. The South Quire Clerestory project is also now fully funded. You may remember seeing the netting in the Quire. Hopefully this will soon disappear as this work is scheduled for early 2020. 

The next most urgent project was the glazing that is blown and leaking water. The masonry around some of the stained glass windows is crumbling and repairs are required as a matter of urgency before larger pieces of masonry are lost. There is also a great deal of broken glass. We are delighted to advise that this project, estimated to cost £210,000, is also now fully funded.

Our focus now is on the high-level external masonry on the north aisle and south nave where 12th and 13th century Caen stone masonry is badly deteriorating and is in urgent need of conservation. Work also need to be done to the leadwork on the parapet and to the masonry surrounding the windows on the southern façade. This work will cost £213,000. Added to this are health & safety issues surrounding paving and railings with a cost of another £51,000. So fund raising continues.
