Stewards

Our dedicated team of Stewards provide a warm, attentive and dignified welcome for worshippers and visitors in keeping with Rochester Cathedral’s long established Benedictine tradition.  Stewards are invited and appointed by the Dean and are members of the congregation on the Cathedral Roll.

Recently we celebrated the 40th anniversary of having female stewards at Rochester Cathedral.  Betty and Susan were admitted by Dean John Arnold in July 1978.  Shortly afterwards Margaret H and Margaret R were also admitted as stewards.  We now have 50 women in our team of 88 stewards.

To commemorate their long service to the Cathedral and to highlight their accomplishments Dean Hesketh gave a blessing after the service.   We would like to thank them and all our stewards for the time and commitment they have given to Rochester Cathedral over the years.
